I'm baaaack

After a longer period of being inactive on Tribe and Bhuz due to work I am now going to try to be available online more. I'll start with letting you know that we've overhauled our academy website and it's come out pretty good if I may say so myself. check it out www.the-eda.com
We even have an online article database that we continously are expanding. Further, we're making pay-per-view online classes available starting January 15 2009! These are just a few of the fun exciting new things we have going on.

The EDA Summer Intensive 2008 is approaching with rapid shimmies. I hope to see some of you during the week of over 40 hours of classes. Remember, you dont have to sign up for the whole week. You can pick and choose your classes as you please.

David managed to flirt with an entire room full of women at once during the workshop, a few of my students were at the workshop, they still talk about it
and he fllirted with the entire audience at the hafla, and they are still talking about it

and my daughter keeps refering to him as "the cute bellydance teacher"

Shava and I were talking, we are ready to move to San Diego just to be groupie stalkers!

Bahaia of Austin, Texas is a belly dance performer, instructor, and promoter with over 15 years of experience. Bahaia performs at community events, corporate functions and family celebrations. She offers weekly classes and private lessons for all levels and seminars on technique and choreography throughout the USA and annually in Jamaica. Bahaia hosts annual belly dance seminars and retreats in Central Texas. She is also the founder & president of the Aria Dance Foundation, a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated
to promoting belly dance as art. DaVid is an internationally acclaimed performer and instructor specializing in Rak Sharki, Bhangra, and Bollywood and one of the co-founders of the Ethnic Dance Academy in San Diego.

Please join us January 19-20 in Nashville, Tennessee in welcoming DaVid to the Southeast as he teaches workshops in Raks Sharki Combos, Bollywood for Bellydance, and Bhangra. Workshops will be held at the Global Education Center at 4822 Charlotte Pike in Nashville starting Saturday, January 19 with Raks Sharki Combos at 11:30am and Bollywood for Bellydance at 2:30pm. Sunday's Bhangra workshop will begin at 11am, January 20. Workshops are $35 for one, $65 for two, or $90 for the weekend if you register by December 15, 2007 (just in time for holiday gift shopping). The EDA Reference Book and Technique Manual for Middle Eastern Dance

The manual will address injury prevention, technique, common concepts, music, terminology, history, the EDA Lineage, and more.

Cold Norway

OK so i just got home from my weekend with the FAMOUS AND FREAKING AMAZING DAVID* and im like freaking dead* I loved that workshop that the first time i had ever done any kind of staff/cane dance in my life and first time in bhangra and i loved it* i thought well bhangra dancing will be easy for me im an experienced Greek dancer but that is nothing compared to that* OMG his prefromances were amazing, i was so nervous to just be in the same room as him and he is so down to earth and a comedian, he craked us up in the workshop* Im just so glad to say that not only did i get to spend my last preformance on the same stage as him but i can now say i have meet and had the pleasure of taking a workshop with him!!!!!!! If you are ever in texas again i will be so there i dont care when why how i will be there* thank you so much*

Ok, so I havent been really good at keeping the activity level up in my own tribe, how rude. But here is a report from this year's Luna Gitana show. If you ever get the chance to dance in their show or attend it, please do. It is probably one of the most professionally done shows I've ever danced in so far. I was highly impressed by the fab lighting, sound and organization. Thumbs up to Vashti and Bellydance Odyssey Productions for putting it on.

Ok, so we've successfully completed my 2006 birthday bash. Craziness. Quite a few of my San Diego DaVidites were present and the wonderful Lucia danced. Starting off a tradition - we collected donations for a charitable cause. This year the UCSD AVRC - in efforts to support HIV and AIDS research conducted at their facilities. We kept the party going into the wee hours and we shaked our stuff to the max.

Photoes are posted here in the photo album - due to the various times people arrived - not everyone got a picture taken.

Bollywood Question

After completing our big bollywood show I've had the time to actually comtemplate everything that goes into these choreographies. I noticed that in the 12 different dances we performed, I don't think we did the same move twice.

So, as far as choreographing bollywood pieces goes...are there any rules to follow, basic moves like in bellydance? Or is it based solely on the song lyrics and the choreographer invents new moves based on song interpretation? Is there a right or wrong way to bollywood?

Performance videos?

Hi DaVid
could you tell me what videos you have perfromances on?
I saw you 2 years ago at Rakkasah and you were fabulous
I accosted you and "Had to hug you" you were so good
Any way I no longer live in CA and am part of a local group that sponcors (sp?) dance workshops-- I need some "amunition" to show some the other dancers in the group good dancers we should be looking at to bring in for workshops.
Right now the only references we have are either having seen the dancer or videos. So unfortunately that gives us an extremely limited pool to pull from. And me saying oh this person is fabulous just isnt enough.

PEKO shoot

OK, so I had a great time at the PEKO shoot thanks to my great fellow dancers that were there and were so supportive - and of course, the PEKO man, PEKO mom and PEKO dad were awesome. Their crew took such great care of us...

Unfortunately, I forgot my camera in San Diego, so thank you to Kami for posting the pics on here....

Im all exited to see the results...

And, dont you just love my new costume? I sure do. Thank you Jamileh for the inspiration.

Hand move in Maahi Ve

Cultural wisdom needed:

In the song Maahi Ve the use this movement fairly often when singing "Ajaa Maahi Ve": right fist pushes against flat palm of left hand.
Does this have any meaning in Indian or is it just a "cool" dance move?
